Installation Instructions — GG Offroad

Installation Instructions

Expert guidance for every GG Offroad camera relocation kit. Follow the instructions for your vehicle and product below.

Digital Rearview Mirror

3 guides
Estimated install time: ~2 hours. No drilling or cutting required.
  1. 1
Drop the rear headliner panels to access the factory camera cable above the rear seats.
  2. 2
Disconnect the factory cable and connect the GG Offroad extension cable in-line. Connectors are plug-and-play — no wiring modification needed.
  3. 3
Route the extension cable through the factory grommet in the cab floor, under the seat, toward the tailgate area.
  4. 4
Mount the external camera to the bed rail or tailgate using the included pivot arm or suction cup mount.
  5. 5
Reinstall headliner panels and verify the digital rearview mirror displays the relocated camera view.
Estimated install time: ~2 hours. No drilling or cutting required.
Compatibility: Designed for 4th Gen (2024+) Tacoma with the factory Digital Rearview Mirror option. Verify your trim includes DRV before ordering.
  1. 1
Drop the rear headliner panels to expose the factory camera connector above the rear seats.
  2. 2
Plug the GG Offroad cable in-line between the factory harness and the headunit — no modification required.
  3. 3
Route the cable along the factory channel, through the floor grommet, and toward the bed.
  4. 4
Attach the external camera to your preferred mount location at the tailgate or bed rail.
  5. 5
Reinstall headliner panels and test the DRV mirror to confirm the relocated view is working.
Pro tip: Do this in the same session as your DRV install — the headliner is already down, so the brake tap only adds a few minutes to your total time.
  1. 1
With the headliner dropped, locate the CHMSL connector — the 3rd brake light plug — above the rear seats.
  2. 2
Plug the Brake Tap cable in-line at this connector. It's a direct plug — no splicing or wire tapping needed.
  3. 3
Route the brake wire through the same factory grommet under the seat alongside your DRV cable, toward the tailgate.
  4. 4
Connect to the camera mount and test: pressing the brake pedal should activate the rear camera view on the DRV mirror.

Tailgate Camera Relocation

Estimated install time: under 1 hour for both variations.

🔧 Tools You'll Need

Tesa Wire Loom Tape Side Cutters Wire Strippers Heat Shrink Solder Connectors Hot Air Gun recommended
Two kit variants — choose the right one before you start:
  • Tailgate-Delete Kit — For complete tailgate removal (slide-in campers, flatbeds). Easiest install — fully plug-and-play, no splicing.
  • Tailgate-On Kit — Keep your tailgate and all factory functions (locks, lights, auto up/down). Requires a simple waterproof wire splice under the truck.

Option A — Tailgate Delete (Easier)

Choose this if you are removing the tailgate completely — for a slide-in camper, flatbed conversion, or high-clearance setup.

  1. 1
Disconnect the factory tailgate connector underneath the truck by pressing in the latch and pulling it straight out.
  2. 2
Remove the factory tailgate camera and plug it directly into the GG Offroad main cable.
  3. 3
Connect the included tailgate adapter to the GG Offroad cable. This adapter is an exact match for the factory tailgate connector on your truck — no modification needed.
  4. 4
Plug the adapter into the truck's factory tailgate connector port. Install complete.
  5. 5
Mount the camera at your desired location and test the backup view on your screen.

Option B — Tailgate-On (Keep Full Tailgate Function)

Choose this to keep your tailgate installed and maintain all factory functions — locks, lighting, auto up/down. Requires a waterproof wire splice under the truck.

All splices must be waterproof — this work is done under the truck. Use adhesive-lined heat shrink solder connectors. A hot air gun is strongly recommended over an open flame.
  1. 1
Disconnect the factory tailgate connector underneath the truck: press the latch, pull back, and remove.
  2. 2
Un-loom a few inches of the factory harness to expose the twisted white/red pair — these are the camera signal wires. Do not use other white wires in the bundle.
  3. 3
From the GG Offroad cable, cut off the oval connector, leaving just the red and black wires.
  4. 4
Splice the wires with heat shrink solder connectors, maintaining these pairings:
    • Toyota White → GG Red
    • Toyota Red → GG Black
Strip ~¼ inch from each wire, slide on the connectors, overlap the stripped ends in the center, and apply heat until the solder flows completely.

Tip: Cap the cut tailgate-side wire ends with heat shrink so you can easily revert later if needed.

  5. 5
Re-loom the harness with Tesa tape, routing the GG Offroad cable neatly alongside the factory harness.
  6. 6
Plug the factory tailgate connector back into the truck and lock it with the lever lock. Plug the GG Offroad cable into the now-unused tailgate connector port.
  7. 7
Mount the camera and test: verify backup guidelines appear, no dash error messages, and all tailgate functions work normally.
