Did you block the backup camera? Added a high-clearance bumper or swing-out carrier, maybe just a bikerack... The GG Offroad Tailgate Camera Relocation Cable restores your factory backup camera feed with a simple plug-and-play connection. This 10ft extension cable relocates your OEM camera module to any aftermarket setup—no splicing required. Designed exclusively for Toyota systems to eliminate "Camera Unavailable" errors. Perfect for when gear or armor blocks your tailgate view.

Compatibility

If you are running any of the following Tundra mods, your swing-out is likely blocking your rearview or your tailgate camera has been removed entirely:

  • Swing-Out Tire Carriers: (e.g., CBI Offroad, Expedition One, Westcott Designs)
  • Slide-in or Pop-up Campers: (e.g., Go Fast Campers (GFC), Lone Peak, Four Wheel Campers)
  • Rear Bumper Storage Boxes: Large gear boxes that sit directly in the line of sight of the tailgate handle.
  • Oversized Spare Tires: 35" or 37" tires mounted on high-clearance rear bumpers.
  • Tailgate-Mounted Bike Racks: Vertical racks (like VelociRAX) that obscure the lens.
Installation

Installation will take less than an hour for all variants. Most are plug and play. The Tacoma tailgate delete requires a short process to integrate. For more information, check out our installation page.

Kit Includes
  • Cable Length: 10 feet with weather-sealed OEM-style connectors for reliable performance
  • Adjustable mounting system with 2 angle options and multiple camera clips to fit different sizes
  • Complete mounting hardware included
  • Tacoma tailgate delete models: includes adapter cable
  • Tacoma tailgate attached models: includes heat shrink tubing and butt splices for seamless wiring integration

FAQs

What does this cable do?
When you add a swing-out bumper, spare tire carrier, or hitch-mounted rack that blocks your factory backup camera, or when you remove your tailgate entirely for a slide-in camper setup, your backup camera stops working. This cable extends the factory tailgate camera signal so you can mount the camera in a new location — on a swing-out, above a license plate, on a bumper rack, or wherever gives you a clear rear view. Your backup camera continues to work exactly as factory — same image, same backup guidelines on your screen.

There are multiple versions — which one do I need?
This is the most important question to get right before ordering. There are two variations for Tacoma: one for trucks keeping the tailgate attached, and one for trucks where the tailgate is being fully removed.

If you are keeping your tailgate on the truck and adding a swing-out or hitch accessory that just blocks the camera, order the standard tailgate-on version. If you are removing your tailgate entirely — for example for a slide-in camper, flatbed conversion, or swing-out that replaces the tailgate — order the tailgate-delete version, which includes an additional adapter cable.

There are two versions for Tundra based on whether you have the 360 camera package on your vehicle.

Does it fit my truck?
Two versions are available: Tundra (2022–2026, 3rd Gen) and Tacoma (2024–2026, 4th Gen). Select your vehicle from the dropdown. Does not fit 3rd Gen Tacoma (2016–2023), Sequoia, 4Runner, or non-Toyota vehicles.

Will removing my tailgate cause error messages on my dash?
Yes, if you remove your Tacoma tailgate without the proper adapter cable, you will likely see a system warning on your dash. This is because the truck communicates with the tailgate camera over a CANBUS connection — it expects the tailgate to be there. The tailgate-delete version of this cable includes the adapter needed to clear these errors and maintain normal system operation. If you are keeping your tailgate on, you will not have this issue.

Can I just buy another camera module from Toyota?
In most cases yes. Its just that easy on a Tundra with PVM 360 package you can just purchase (867900c290) and it is plug and play.
On Tacomas (both non-360 and 360) and Tundra non-360 - You may need to have the dealer pair your new camera to the truck. Some customers have reported success without pairing. Make sure you purchase the exact camera thats in your tailgate - use your VIN.

Will I lose my backup guidelines?
If you are keeping your tailgate on and using the standard cable, your backup guidelines will remain fully intact. If you are removing your tailgate, you need to split the CAN bus signals into the existing tailgate harness to restore the guidelines. We have a video showing exactly how to do this — it's covered in the installation instructions.

Where should I mount the camera after relocating it?
The most common mounting locations are on a swing-out spare tire carrier, above the license plate on a rear bumper, on the door of a slide-in camper, or on a hitch-mounted accessory rack. GG Offroad has two mount options: one designed for mounting near the original tailgate camera height, and one designed for mounting above the license plate. The right choice depends on your setup — if you're not sure, email sales@ggoffroad.com with a photo of your rear end and he'll advise.

Does the cable include a camera, or do I need to source one separately?
The cable does not include a camera. In most cases you reuse your existing factory Toyota backup camera from the tailgate. Our recommendation is to use the factory camera from your tailgate rather than sourcing a new one, to avoid Toyota dealer reprogramming. If you'd like to buy a second camera anyway, I recommend looking at the part number of your original camera and purchasing the same one. Then, you'll go to the Toyota dealership to pair the new camera. You'll then be able to switch back and forth between your original and new camera.

Can I install it if my topper or camper is already on the truck?
Yes, with most accessories, this installation is easy to do even when your camper is already installed.
