FAQs

1. Does this work on my specific truck?

This cable is compatible with 2022+ Toyota Tundras and 2024+ Toyota Tacomas.

CRITICAL REQUIREMENT: Your truck must be equipped with a factory CHMSL that includes the white illumination/cargo lights. If your cab light does not have the white clear lenses next to the red brake light, this harness will not be compatible. This includes select 2025/2026 Tundra trims and Tacoma SR trims without the LED cargo light package.

2. Which version should I buy: Tundra or Tacoma?

While the technology is similar, the harness lengths and connectors are vehicle-specific. Please ensure you select your correct truck model from the dropdown menu before adding to your cart to avoid shipping delays or return issues.

3. Is it "Plug-and-Play"? How hard is the install?

Yes! Our harness is 100% plug-and-play with no wire cutting or splicing required. You can find our step-by-step video guide at ggoffroad.com/install to see the process before you buy. Most customers complete the install in under 20 minutes.

4. What are the technical voltage outputs?

The harness provides two distinct 12VDC triggers:

  • Red Wire: Outputs 12V when the brake pedal is pressed.
  • Yellow Wire: Outputs 12V whenever the white CHMSL/Cargo lights are activated (e.g., when doors are open or the cargo light switch is on).
  • Black Wire: Ground.

5. Will my factory 3rd brake light still work?

Yes. Our harness acts as a "bridge." It taps the signal for your topper or accessories while allowing the factory cab brake light to continue functioning exactly as it did from the dealership.

6. Why tap the headliner instead of the tail lights?

Many DIY taps at the tail light cause "hyper-flashing" or turn signal interference because the truck’s computer detects a change in resistance. By tapping the CHMSL in the headliner, our cable avoids the blinker circuit entirely, ensuring zero interference and a clean signal.

7. Can I use this to power LED bed lights?

Absolutely. While designed for topper brake lights, this is a perfect power source for low-draw LED bed lighting. You can use the yellow wire to have your bed lights turn on automatically when you unlock the truck or open the doors.

8. Why does the brake tap wire have two different connectors?

The brake tap connects between the truck and the existing brake light, leaving it fully functional while tapping into signals and providing 26ft of cable to use elsewhere.
