Installation

Full installation instructions are listed here.

xzsz
To install your new extension harness, you will first need to access the factory camera system by dropping the rear of the headliner and removing the tail light. After disconnecting the camera harness, you'll extract the cameras from their original brackets using a Torx T-6 bit and a Philips screwdriver. Once the cameras are removed, install the provided closeout plugs in the original tail light holes and connect your cameras to the new extension cables. Route these cables across the headliner, down the passenger C-pillar, and through the exterior grommet located under the passenger rear seat. Finally, run the cables along the frame into the truck bed via the AC power panel, reconnecting the cameras to their specifically marked ("Bed" or "Rear View") cables to complete the setup.

Tools You’ll Need:

Short stubby socket wrench
Swivel adapter
Deep 10mm socket
#2 Phillips screwdriver
Side cutters
Needle nose pliers
Plastic trim tools
Precision screwdriver set (T6)
Zip Ties
Masking tape and a Sharpie

FAQs

What does this kit actually do?
Your Toyota's Digital Rearview Mirror (DRV) and bed/cargo camera are both housed in the 3rd brake light assembly on the roof of your cab. When you add a topper, canopy, or camper shell, these cameras are completely blocked — the mirror goes black and the bed view disappears. This kit extends the factory camera cables so both cameras can be relocated to the rear of your topper or canopy. Your Digital Rearview Mirror works exactly as it did from the factory — same image quality, same interface, same backup guidelines. Note: cameras are not included. You reuse your existing factory Toyota cameras. The kit is cables, mounts, and hardware only.

Which mount option should I choose?
Check out our mounting comparison chart below! If you still have questions, reach out to us for a reccomendation.

Does this fit my truck?
Select your vehicle from the dropdown. Two versions are available: Tundra 3rd Gen (2022–2026) and Tacoma 4th Gen (2024–2026), including TRD Off-Road, Trailhunter, TRD Pro, Hybrid, and Limited trims. Required: your truck must have the Digital Rearview Mirror — the mirror that shows a live camera feed rather than a standard reflection. If your mirror is a regular reflective mirror, this kit is not compatible. Does not fit: 3rd Gen Tacoma (2016–2023), Sequoia, 4Runner, or non-Toyota vehicles. Not sure if you have a DRV? Look at your rearview mirror while driving — if it displays a camera feed, you have a DRV and this kit will work.

Troubleshooting: Why is the image flickering?

If you're experiencing flickering after testing your cables, there could be several potential causes. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help identify and resolve the issue:

Loose or Dirty Connection
Check the connections at both the camera and inside the headliner. A loose connection can cause flickering, especially if it's movement-related. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the camera to ensure a solid connection. Also, inspect the connection between the Toyota harness and the GG extension harness to ensure it's secure.

Water Ingress
Water can enter the connections, either at the camera module or where the factory camera harness meets the GG harness. If the installation is outside the vehicle (e.g., near the camper), water may have caused corrosion. For external installations, we provide heat shrink in our kits to prevent this issue. Check for any signs of water damage.
Pinched, Kinked, or Stretched Cable
Ensure the harness is not pinched, kinked, or stretched at any point along its routing. This could occur under the truck or if the excess harness is wound too tightly. Be sure the cable isn't bent at a harsh angle, as a tight bend can cause internal wire separation, leading to flickering. Aim for a bend radius of roughly 3-4 inches for proper cable handling.

Aftermarket Dash Camera Interference
In some cases, aftermarket dash cameras wired into the mirror power source have caused flickering. These cameras can introduce electrical noise into the system, affecting signal integrity. Try temporarily unplugging all aftermarket accessories to see if the flickering resolves.
If none of these issues resolve the problem, please reach out to austin@ggoffroad.com to discuss getting a new cable.

Can I buy another camera module instead of removing mine from the 3rd brake light?
Yes, you can buy an additional camera from Toyota but you will also need to buy the short 12inch harness that connects between the camera modules and the truck. The Tundra part (86797-0C360)
works for the Tacoma too and is typically cheaper and easier to split the wires apart.
-For Tacoma you'll need to order:

  • Tundra Camera Harness- (86797-0C360)
  • Tacoma DEV Camera- DRV Camera Module - (867C0-AK010)
  • Tacoma BED Camera Module - (86790 -AK060)

-For the Tundra you'll need:

  • Tundra Camera Harness- (86797-0C360)
  • Tundra Camera Module- (867C0-0C010)
  • Tundra Bed View Module (86790-0C250)

I only want to move one camera — do I need the full kit?
In some cases, we can sell a custom kit. Reach out to us with your request and we will consult with you.

Can I install this with my topper already on the truck?
Yes, but it's easier before the topper goes on. If your topper is already installed you have two options. First, slide the topper back 2–3 feet to access the CHMSL (3rd brake light) in the headliner — this avoids full removal and works for most toppers including Alu-Cab, Leer, and GFC. Second, purchase a second short Toyota camera harness — this lets you leave the factory cameras in place and connect new extension cables without touching the CHMSL at all. Our recommendation: install before the topper if at all possible. It's a 2–3 hour job versus 4–5 hours with the topper on.

Is the cable long enough for my setup?
In almost every case, yes. The kit includes cables long enough to reach the rear of a full-size Tundra crew max with a 6.5ft bed and a full canopy. Customers with Supertramp campers, Alu-Cab canopies, GFC toppers, and rooftop tents have all confirmed the length is sufficient. Custom lengths are not available, as the LVDS signal these cables carry is at its limit at the included lengths. Have an unusually large setup? Email us before ordering and he can confirm compatibility.

How hard is it to install? Do I need a shop?
Most customers complete the install in 2–4 hours with basic mechanical confidence. No cutting, soldering, or reprogramming required. The hardest part is dropping the rear headliner to access the factory camera connectors. If you'd prefer a professional install, check out our installer network, or ask an upfitter of your choice if they are comfortable with the install. We find most shops are able to complete.

Do I also need the Brake Light Tap Cable?
The DRV Relocation Kit and the Brake Light Tap Cable solve two different problems. The DRV kit moves your cameras so they work through your topper. The Brake Light Tap Cable connects your topper's 3rd brake light to your truck's factory brake circuit. If your topper has its own 3rd brake light that needs to work, you'll want both products. If your topper has no brake light, the DRV kit alone should work.

The two short cables from my brake light harness look identical — which goes where?
The two short 12" harnesses look similar but are matched to specific cameras. On Tacoma kits: the brown connector cable goes to the bed (cargo) camera socket; the grey connector cable goes to the DRV camera socket. On Tundra kits: both connectors use the same color connector, but the one with brown tape is the bed (cargo) camera— swap them if one camera is not working. Swapping these two cables is the number one fix for "no image after install." It helps to add a label to the cables as you install so that you don't lose track of which is which.

My experience with GG Offroad, working directly with Katie and Austin, was excellent from start to finish. Communication was completely transparent and forthcoming throughout the process. They were more than willing to help me figure out the best possible setup for relocating my mounts to accommodate a Defender Smart Cap, guided me through choosing the right mounting brackets, and when I ended up needing to swap out cap models mid-process, they didn't hesitate to help me work out an alternative mounting solution as well.

As for the kit itself — the cables are high quality and braided, and I have zero concerns about their durability or overall build quality. The mounts are 3D printed, which is a nice touch, and they feel sturdy and well-designed, offering plenty of stability and mounting versatility for various cap setups. The kit comes with essentially everything you need to get the job done. If you want a little extra shrink wrap for added wire security beyond what's included, you certainly can — but honestly, it's not necessary. They've clearly thought through every detail of this kit and eliminated the guesswork.

They also have plenty of setup videos available on their social media pages, which makes installation even more approachable. For anyone planning to run a cap full-time and wanting a clear, unobstructed line of sight while still keeping the factory tech functional, this kit is genuinely a no-brainer.

This was the most well thought out system that I have installed. The directions were detailed and the camera mounts just right. Since there were two cameras built into the 3rd brake light, we reinstalled one in the camper for the customer to check on his dogs while driving and one on the back of the shell to see behind the truck while driving.
We had the same situation on a Ford Super Duty, but had to make our own cable and 3D printed the rear mount. No one made a relocation system for it.

Thank you so much for the kind words!

Excellent product to have if adding a camper shell. The “how to” video alone, was worth the price of goods received. Excellent instructions and made it a breeze.

I wanted a Truck topper for my 3rd Generation Tundra however I did not want to give up my rearview camera. After much research I found a youtube video from nitro z18 fishing tundra and later the video from GG off road. That was what I needed to move forward with my purchase. And after receiving the relocation kit I had DFW Truck accessories in Fort Worth Texas install the unit. I sent the technician the video from GG offroad and they were able to complete it. I chose the pivot Arm for my mount. I wanted to use the external mount but there was not a good place because of the style of topper. The delivery was 2 1/2 weeks but it was worth the wait. I appreciate Austin for personally making my brake cable and sending it expedited mail. Also on the pivot arm bolt I placed a wing nut on the bolt so that if I need to load a large object in the back of my topper I can simply move the pivot arm out of the way during the loading process. Thanks GG Off road for this solution I think you should start selling directly to Truck Topper Stores.

Your YouTube video helped a lot. Took me a little over 3 hours to finish and I took my time so I wouldn't make mistakes. I don't have my new cap yet but I like the adaptation to suction cup camera brackets. Thank you!

Most of the time technical DIY projects do not go as simply as advertised. This one was not an exception. There was a week long shipping delay via UPS some nice to know stuff in the instructions would have been helpful I struggled a bit with routing the wire and ended up damaging some of the wiring because of my install error. It's not a difficult project per se and Austin is helpful and responsive and will walk you through the process when you hit a problem. The product is of high quality and everything you need except confidence and some tools is included. Best of all it works quite well.

Ordered the wrong brake tap. Emailed customer service and Austin sent me a return label. I then ordered the correct part for my 2025 Tundra. Installation is pretty easy. Now my truck cap brake light works.

Very well made stellar customer support (I flipped the cables around and Austin got me sorted with a single email) and it's so nice to have a rear view mirror again after a year with a topper on my truck.

The relocation kit is excellent and works well. I like being able to use my rear view mirror cam again. The instructional video was great. I gave this 4 stars because I'm not sure I like the suction cup mount for canopies. The suction cup doesn't look like a professional install. I haven't tried the suction cup offroad yet to see if it stays I think it will.

I appreciate that you guys made these digital review cameras and bed relocation kits. And I have installed it in my Toyota tundra half the way so far. I'm waiting for my camper shell to go on and then I'll install the rest of the way. I gave you four stars because I sent you guys an email asking you guys a question and never received any comment. Keep up the good work otherwise. Thanks Larry.
